Mere restaurant review - London new best restaurants 2017
Out of all the new restaurants in 2017, Monica Galetti’s first restaurant is definitely the one that i anticipated the most. Monica, being known as Masterchef’s star judge and Michel Roux Jr’s sous-chef, has everything it takes to manage an impressive restaurant.
Mere, situated in Charlotte street, has Samoan artwork, warm lighting and minimalist interior with muted colours. Everything looks promising. Her classic background combine with a resistance to trends allow her to cook freely. Her personality has for sure come out of her dishes.
Scallops, black curry and kumquats make a very interesting combination, challenging the classic way of cooking scallops. The refreshing sauce makes puffed rice the most comforting thing ever. My favourite has to be the young piegon with rhubarb glazed breast, pastilla and cauliflower. This is probabilt one of the top 3 piegon/duck dishes I have ever had. Perfect texture, strong pigeon flavour and heart warming pastilla wrap with sliced pigeon meat. The traditional pigeon breast and the pastilla are the perfect illustration of Galetti’s style: traditional french with South pacific influence.
Overall, Monica’s first restaurant did not fail to impress. From interior, services and the dishes, everything has a strong ‘Galetti’ influence. I simply cannot wait to visit again.
