When i was reading other local bloggers’ website, i came across this restaurant – Comilonas, a restaurant that i could not find any info on Openrice. So i looked it up and found their website, and i decided i should visit this hidden gem. Comilonas is truly a PRIVATE kitchen, since it only serves a table per night. It is an ideal place for birthday parties, gathering and people who enjoy having their own space.
Esqueixada :Esqueixada is a Catalan dish, a salad of shredded salt cod, tomatoes, onions, olive oil and vinegar and salt. It was fresh and simple, but it was enhanced by the richness of the black olives.
Potatoes omelette: A very traditional spanish dish that all of us adore! I would say this was the best dish of the night. The omelette was very juicy, which was quite rare since most restaurants often overcooked it. At the same time, slices of potatoes were very crunchy.
Mixed mushroom with garlic: Very average garlic mushroom. Nothing special or bad about it.
Piquillo peppers stuffed with cheese: Another excellent dish of the night. Peppers were unexpectedly sweet and went well with cheese. I like the combination of cheese and peppers. It was not too heavy since the cheese was not those melting cheesy one, but chewy and light one.
Pork mixed cuttlefish meatballs: The meatball itself was fine, but the sauce was the key to failure. It was a chocolate sauce that tasted very bitter. It just did not match the whole dish.
Orange & avocado mixed green salad: Ahmmm…Could have been something more interesting. Standard salad that you would get from chain restaurants.
Chorizo & Shrimps paella: It was served in a traditional paella pot (a smaller version perhaps). Paella was cooked to al dente and every bit was coated with the essence of chorizo and shrimps. It would be even better if shrimps were king prawns.
Caramelized orange with vanilla ice-cream: I am not a big fan of orange, but i did finish the ice-cream inside, which had a rich flavour of orange. Not excellent but not bad.
Comilonas is a good place for people who are crazy about privacy, since you have the whole restaurant to yourself (well it isn’t big tho). The food was average, but as they only charge hkd 400 per head, it was very reasonable, given that they only serve a table every night.
